From Uncork’d Entertainment comes Crown and Anchor, a raw look at the effects of childhood trauma through the eyes of two estranged cousins. The drama offers both sides of one issue, as two different characters struggle to find balance amongst the wreckage of their lives. Today, we have the exclusive trailer for this stirring relationship study, which features a hardcore soundtrack that itself stands alone as something punk fans need to seek out.
In Crown and Anchor, James Downey (Michael Rowe) is living a disciplined and straight edge lifestyle as a result of growing up with an abusive alcoholic father. His estranged cousin Danny (Matt Wells) is drowning his own trauma with drugs and booze. When their lives are forced to intersect once more, they each begin to unravel as the past returns with violent and tragic consequences.
Featuring a blistering punk/hardcore soundtrack, Crown and Anchor stars Michael Rowe (‘Deadshot’ on TV’s Arrow), Matt Wells (Designated Survivor), Natalie Brown (Saw V), Robert Joy (CSI : NY), Stephen McHattie (Orphan Black) and Ben Cotton (The X-Files).
Crown and Anchor will be available on DVD and Digital July 2 from Uncork’d Entertainment. Andrew Rowe is directing the movie from a screenplay he wrote himself, collaborating with his brother Michael Rowe and Matt Wells, who are responsible for the core story being told here. The film marks Andrew Rowe’s directorial debut after having directed a number of shorts over the past decade, starting with Soapstone Hippo in 2009.
Michael Rowe also got his first acting gig, starring in Soapstone Hippo. He worked alongside his brother in quite a few other shorts before getting his big break as an Air Force pilot in the 2014 Godzilla movie. He’s also appeared in Tomorrowland and Suck It Up, but DC Comics fans know him best as Deadshot in Arrow, having also made appearances as the character in The CW’s The Flash. Crown and Anchor also marks Michael’s first starring role in a feature film.
The soundtrack is loaded down with punk and hardcore bands, many tracks from Orange County Hardcore Scenesters, that include Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, X-Ray Spex, LiLiPUT/Kleenex, DYS, Side by Side, Blood on the Wall, Ho99o9, Project X and Johnny Thunder. Crown and Anchor writer/director Andrew Rowe had this to say about the soundtrack.
“I was introduced to hardcore music in my late teens through my best friend at the time and I instantly fell in love with it. I never drank as a teen and the whole straight edge angle clicked pretty hard with me. I became straight edge and played in a straight edge hardcore band called Youth Diversion for a while. We released a few demos, toured a little. I left the straight edge scene in my mid-20s but my love of punk and hardcore music has stayed to this day.”
It doesn’t look like a soundtrack for Crown and Anchor is available for purchase at this time, so you’ll have to delve deep into the movie to get a taste of this wall to wall hardcore soundscape that accompanies the hard hitting drama. Crown and Anchor is available this summer from Uncorked Entertainment.
